Beer Update 4/28/2009
Lots of good stuff today...

Saint Somewhere Saison Athene
"Saison Athene is a bottle
conditioned Saison with a spicy and moderately hoppy profile true to
the traditions of the farmhouse ales of Wallonia." -Brewery

Southern Tier Mokah
"When empirical and creative impulses
collide, the result is often timeless. The classic utility-art
aesthetic of the coffee maker is an example of design and
engineering working in concert. It is through similar cooperation
that the simple bitter cocoa bean is transformed into a sweet treat.
As scientists, our brewers utilize their materials to exacting
standards. As artists, they couldn’t resist the temptation to
combine the best flavors of two of our highly acclaimed Blackwater
Series Imperial Stouts, Jahva and Choklat. Alone each is perfect,
but together as Mokah, they are an inimitable expression of two of
the world’s most sought after flavors. Enjoy Mokah stout with - or
as - your favorite dessert!"
-Brewery

Southern Tier Über*sun
“A galaxy of taste in every bottle” It is through the movement of the universe that life presents itself in transformation. It is in this spirit that we make ÜberSun, a tribute to the dynamic energy of summer. The alignment of wheat and barley through this hop-infused brew embodies the solar system itself... This may be a difficult task, but one our brewers revel in! They brew a galaxy of taste into every batch. ÜberSun is the ultimate experience that will challenge you with each sip. ÜberSun Imperial Summer Wheat Beer takes off where our Hop Sun finishes. Like it’s little brother, ÜberSun is clean and full of flavor, but don’t pull an Icarus– this is one big beer! Pour a glass or drink straight from the bottle, it’s meant to be consumed wisely with friends between summer solstice and autumnal equniox."

Dieu du Ceil! Peche Mortel
"If you love really good coffee and
really good beer equally, you will be thrilled with Péché Mortel. If
coffee isn’t your cup of tea, and caffeine makes you bounce off the
ceiling, then just put the bottle down and find something else to
drink. This beer is all about coffee. Indeed, you may have seen
‘coffee stouts’ before, but no brewer has ever married coffee and
beer so naturally and seamlessly.
And this isn’t just any stout, but an imperial stout, which means
that it is modeled on the strong, rich, and very complex stouts that
were made in England in the 19th and early 20th centuries
exclusively for shipment to Russia, where they were a special
favorite at the court of the Czars." -Brewery

Dieu du Ceil! Corne du diable
"An American-style I.P.A. The Corne du Diable is a contemporary adaptation of the original English Pale Ales. This interpretation of the style, born on the North American west coast, is caracterised by stronger and much hoppier beers. The result is a caramel flavoured, full-bodied red ale, with sharp bitterness and powerful aromas thanks to our dry hopping technique." -Brewery

Mikkeller Stateside IPA
"An India Pale Ale brewed with: water, malt (pilsner, munich and caramunic), flaked oats, hops (chinook, cascade and amarillo) and ale yeast.

Mikkeller Simcoe IPA
"The first in a new series of single hop
IPAs from Mikkeller. Brewed with Simcoe, known from many great US
micro-brews. An extremely fresh-hopped IPA.
Ingredients : Water, malts (pilsner, cara-crystal and munich), hops
(simcoe) and yeast." -Brewery

Guinness 250th Anniversary Stout
"Created to
celebrate the 250th anniversary of Arthur Guinness' signing of the
lease for his St. James' Gate Brewery in Dublin, this fizzier,
maltier version of Guinness is poured at an angle, and packs a
stronger alcoholic punch than its sudsy sibling."
Available for a very limited time!

Beer Update 4/15/2009
Busy week in the
Beer Department. Lots of good stuff this week.

Great Divide Oak Aged Espresso Yeti
"Espresso Oak Aged Yeti Imperial Stout is a new addition to
the Yeti clan. A generous infusion of Denver’s own Pablo’s espresso
adds yet another layer of complexity to this beer, combining with
the vanilla oak character, intense roasty maltiness and bold hop
profile to create a whole new breed of mythical creature. It’s
official, you can now have Yeti with breakfast."-Brewery

Great Divide Claymore Scotch Ale
"Named for a medieval Scottish sword, Claymore Scotch ale is
a tribute to the legendary "Wee Heavy" beers of Scotland. A malty,
deep-ruby-hued ale, it features a generous amount of caramel
sweetness, a reserved hop profile and a subtle warming character."

Sierra Nevada Summerfest Lager
"Summerfest is a delightfully refreshing example of a
traditional style lager beer. While lighter in body than our ales,
Summerfest displays significant hop aroma and a tangy hop bite. The
long lagering period adds a smoothness that makes this beer a great
summertime treat." -Brewery

Saison Dupont
"Saison Dupont is a classic Belgian farmhouse ale. This is a
beautifully balanced, complex beer that has a refreshing fruitiness
and long, dry finish. It is bottled unfiltered so it may be cloudy
or have a slight sediment but this is normal and perfectly natural."

Moinette Blonde
"The "Moinette blonde" is a top fermentation beer with
refermentation in the bottle resulting in a complex taste and
harmonious bouquet Coppery blond with many fine hop aromas, the "Moinette
blonde" is a very refreshing beer, thanks to its subtle balance
between sweet, bitter and fruity. The selection of our yeasts gives
this beer its typical aroma and taste" -Brewery

Moinette Brune
"Famous for their Saison Ale, Brasserie Dupont is also
renowned in Belgium for their Moinette. This sturdy ale has an
herbal bouquet that indicates its well hopped character. But unlike
its drier cousin, its body is fuller and rounder with a slightly
sweet finish. Delicious before a meal and with foods like marinated
meats and barbecue."

Dupont Biere de Miel

delicate scent of honey, balanced by a dry palate, resulting in a
beer that is both estery and refreshing" -Brewery

Ølfabrikken Porter
"Ølfabrikken
Porter is inspired by the weighty Baltic porters common in
Scandinavia. The taste is slightly smoky, with vinous notes from
brown sugar leading to a long, rich, finish dominated by chocolate,
liquorice, and coffee flavors from a special blend of roasted
malts." -Brewery

Mikkeller Beer Geek Brunch "Weasel"
"This imperial Oatmeal stout is brewed with one of the world's most expensive coffees, made from droppings of weasel-like civet cats. The fussy Southeast Asian animals only eat the best and ripest coffee berries. Enzymes in their digestive system help to break down the bean. Workers collect the bean-containing droppings for Civet or Weasel Coffee. The exceedingly rare Civet Coffee has a strong taste and an even stronger aroma."-Brewery

Achel 8° Blonde
"This blond, flavorful beer is a surprisingly
refreshing brew at 8% alcohol by volume. It is lightly filtered, but
still wholesomely hazy with yeast remaining in the bottle. For the
moment, it shares the same label with the Achel Bruin beer, but can
be differentiated by the cap – the Blonde has a white cap and the
Bruin a gold cap."

A few new and special items to report...

Southern Tier Jah*va
"Three thousand feet above sea level in the misty mountains of Jamaica, some of the world’s finest Arabica beans are hand picked on their way to becoming Blue Mountain Coffee. Halfway around the world, plump spring barley grows to maturity in the loamy soil of North America while aromatic hops are cultivated to exacting standards. Here in our kettles, these three special ingredients are blended to create a heady mixture of sweet sugar, dark roast, and complex flavor."-Brewery

New Holland Dragon's Milk Ale
"Dragon's Milk is a 17th century term used to describe the strong beer usually reserved for royalty. This strong ale was aged in oak for over 120 days. The aging process extracts flavors from the wood, which contribute to its complex character. Hints of bourbon flavor perfectly compliment its roasted malts to produce a beer fit for a King."-Brewery
